The Shields Ferry has been suspended since Wednesday evening due to the windy conditions in the North East, with the 7-minute hop across the River Tyne being replaced by a 15-minute bus service via the Tyne Tunnel (A19). I’ve been through the Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel a few times since moving to the North East in July 2025, but I hadn’t been through the Tyne Tunnel for vehicles.
